To help you prepare for 3MT, there are now drop-in sessions open to PGRs from all faculties. Sessions will be student-led and focus on whatever aspect of your presentation that you need help with on the day. Find the 3MT drop-in session dates on Moodle.
What is 3MT?
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is an exciting development opportunity for PhD and Professional Doctorate students. Started by the University of Queensland in 2008, it is now an international event. The aim is for PhD students to enhance their academic, presentation and research communication skills by explaining their research in three minutes in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. They have no props other than one static PowerPoint slide.
3MT 2019 will consist of six faculty heats and an all-faculty final. The winner of the University final will be entered into the national semi-finals. If they are successful, they will go to the national final. The PAHC heat for the Faculty of Arts & Humanities will take place on Tuesday May 7th 2019 and the university final on Wednesday June 19th 2019. Applications will open on Friday 1st February 2019. The link to apply online will be circulated that day. We will be sending more information early in the New Year to help you prepare for the application.
