Binding celebrates the relationship between the School of Art at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, and Manchester School of Art. This relationship commenced in 2015 when MMU graduate Kiran Sattar received a full scholarship to study on the MFA in Studio Art at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. specializing in sculpture and ceramics. The exhibition will for the first time bring together sculpture by artists Chris Powell, Kiran Sattar and Brigitte Jurack, all of whom share an interest in clay and a passion for teaching.
Chris Powell is an Associate Professor of Art at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where he teaches sculpture and ceramics. He employs stone, clay, and other traditional materials to explore the abstract shapes of plants, animals, and natural phenomena. Much of his inspiration comes from growing up on a ranch in southwest Arkansas and for Manchester, he will make new work, sourced from locally found materials and objects. See

Kiran Sattar is a ceramicist based in Glossop. She worked as a Trainee Fine Art Lecturer at MMU and has recently opened her own Ceramic Workshop. Her work looks to the body, the skin and the inside/out. She explores notions of the uncomfortable and the unsettling to create repulsive yet seductive imagery using heavily process-based actions; she becomes lost in repetition and the consumption of time. See @kiransattarart on Instagram.
Brigitte Jurack is Senior Lecture and Head of Sculpture/Time-based Arts at Manchester School of Art. Her recent sculptures, including Rhesus Macaque from New Delhi and crows on the fringes of our roads, consider the animal gaze and how it might alter our perception of ourselves. See

The exhibition is supported by the School of Art at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas

The PV includes the latest Interruptions performances at The Holden Gallery featuring Foreign Investment and Claire Hope between 6-7.20pm
