Performance: Ruby Tingle – Ermine @ Cheetham’s Library Reading Room

    Wednesday 5 July 2017
    Performances at 6.30pm & 7.30pm
    Cheetham’s Library
As part of Manifest Arts Festival

Ruby Tingle presents Ermine, a new living self portrait with original score installed in the Reading Room of Chetham’s Library. Inspired by the richly appointed historic environment, its chained ‘godly’ books and golden birds; Ruby has drawn together responsive ideas with her own fictional concepts set in the city, reflecting the Library’s collection of local folktales. Set in the surrounding Medieval Quarter, Ermine forms a new urban myth; a make-believe past or future Manchester has suffered an oil spill into the Irwell, forcing its waterfowl and local nature to adapt and set up home in metropolitan habitats. The accompanying score features sound samples recorded in the area surrounding Chetham’s, and has been made in collaboration with electro artist and producer Dirty Freud along with artists Mike Chavez-Dawson and Simon Woolham, both of whom will be a part of the 20-minute evening performances.

NB: Each performance is limited to 40 people. It is recommended that people attend the Manifest launch at University of Salford and head to Cheetham’s Library en mass at 6pm or 7pm.

Ruby will also presenting at HOME on Sunday 9th as well as part of the Manifest Calling Talks at 2pm.
